COMPANY STORY

Balmingilead Movie Productions began with a single question: what happens when a filmmaker refuses to choose between two homes? Founded by Kathryn Fasegha, BiG operates out of Calgary, Canada and Lagos, Nigeria — producing feature films, series, and documentaries that speak fluently to both. What started as one woman's determination to tell an honest cross-cultural love story has grown into a slate of films, comedy series, and documentaries that carry faith and family at their centre.

KATHRYN FASEGHA

KATHRYN FASEGHA'S STORY

Kathryn is an award-winning filmmaker, producer, and storyteller dedicated to amplifying African and diasporic narratives. What began as a passion for writing turned into a mission: to make sure stories of faith, migration, and identity got told with the same craft and ambition as any major studio picture — just with a conviction behind the camera that couldn't be bought.

Kathryn began her career in Nigeria's television industry in the late 1980s, writing and directing dramas before transitioning into feature filmmaking. Her debut film, Treacherous Heart (2012), was the first African-Canadian feature film to premiere at Cineplex Chinook Centre Calgary and Metro Cinema Edmonton. Her second feature, 2 Weeks in Lagos, premiered at Cannes and now streams on Netflix and other platforms. She founded Balmingilead Movie Productions to give a permanent home to the kind of stories she'd spent a career fighting to get made.
